• Center Punches

• Spring-loaded center punch.

• These nailsets have slightly cupped ends designed to not slip off the head of a nail.

• This hole punch set doesn’t come with an anvil: you drive the plug cutters against a piece of scrap wood or a cutting mat. (Which technically makes this a chisel, but I’m including it here as an example of a hole punch.)

• Leather Stamping Letters

• This gorgeous dapping set caught my eye at a jewelry maker’s trade show, and I had to have it. I don’t make jewelry, but that’s beside the point when dealing with a tool of this magnificence (and surprisingly modest price). The ball-end punches are used together with the dimpled block to form metal to the desired radius. (Count ‘em: there are 24 punches and 4 x 6 = 24 matching dimples on the block.)

• This letter stamping set is meant for leather: it’s made of relatively soft metal.

• This set is missing one (actually it’s missing 4).

• This hardened steel number stamping set is not missing one: you use the same stamp for 6 and 9.

• For cases where you can’t feel scratched lines this optical center punch is a clever solution. You start with the clear lens inserted in the barrel and position the crosshairs exactly where you want the hole. Then, holding the barrel in place, you remove the lens and insert the pointed center punch. A sharp whack with a hammer gives you the dent you seek.

• These punches have flat ends, and are meant for pushing something out of something else, for example a retaining pin out of a shaft.

• These center punches are meant to be hit with a hammer.

• Assorted Punches

• This home-made press uses a hydraulic cylinder to press letter stamps into a leather belt, personalizing it for customers.

• Bucking bars are heavy weights designed to be held behind a piece of sheet metal you are hammering, for example to remove a dent.
